FAQs

For your convenience, our most common customer questions and FAQs are answered right below. If you have more questions, feel free to ask anything on our Contact Us forms.

When is the best time to come fishing in Costa Rica?

The Gamefisher2 resides in an area of the world known as the inter-tropical conversion zone. What this means is that we live and fish in the area where the trade winds meet with the doldrums. Characteristic of this area is that the seasons are very loosely defined. Basically it rains for half the year and the other half it does not. This leaves the migration of the fish to be governed by the ocean temperatures and of course the ocean currents, which have been for some years now erratic at best.
Although every month of the year here is capable of hosting spectacular fishing, they all can have slow periods as well. There are some basic patterns that have been evident throughout the years such as better sail-fishing from Carillo and south: Herradura, Quepos, and Drakes Bay during the months of January, February, March and April and later in the year the bite generally moves north to the Gulf of Papagayo area: Potrero and Flamingo for the months of May, June, July and August. But some years the fish move in these areas early and other years the move in late. So far I have not been able to predict the bite, which leaves my answer to the million dollar question as being simply “Come and fish WHEN YOU CAN! We guarantee that we will fish our hearts out for you, and we’ll have a good time doing so!”

Are lunches and drinks included?

Lunches, snacks, soft drinks, beer and bottled water are included in the price of all full-day charters. Snacks, soft drinks, beer and bottled water are included in the price of all half-day charters.

What should we bring on the boat?

Be sure to bring sunscreen, hats and polarized sunglasses if possible. There is some shade on the boat but the sun reflects off the water so even if you stay in the shade it is wise to wear sunscreen and protective clothing. You will probably want to have your camera along!

How far is Flamingo from Liberia?

Flamingo is approximately a 1 hour drive from Liberia airport.

What else is there to do in the Flamingo area?

There is much to do in the Flamingo area including sailing, ATV rentals, horseback riding, zip-line canopy tours, spa services and more!

Do we need to rent a car?

It is not necessary to rent a car if you will be staying in one of the resort areas. However, if your stay will be longer than 4 nights it is recommended. There are rental car agencies at the beaches if you opt not to rent but change your mind once you arrive. There could, however, be a problem finding a car during peak times, Christmas, Easter or in the first two weeks of July.

Our Mission is to insure each group a safe and memorable day on the water while we sustain our fishery through the use of circle hooks, hook retrieval and a catch and release program.
