We have some great fishing highlights out of Marina Flamingo from the month of December 2022. It was one of the best Decembers for catching that we have ever had but we also fished more days than any other December, so likely December has always been a great month to fish, we just did not have as many sponsors! We finished up the month with some fun inshore fishing. Mother-Son, Audra Jackson and Luca Santoro, fished the morning charter on December 29th and caught 1 20 pound Rooster fish (on their target list), 1 40 pound Cubera snapper, 1 big Jack and 2 Spanish mackerel. Without a doubt, offshore out of Marina Flamingo in December we caught a record amount of Dorado aka Mahi-mahi. We also caught yellowfin tuna, but they were smaller in size and number this month. By no means peak season for marlin and sailfish, there were some billfish to play with this December. Strictly a catch and release sport in Costa Rica, our crew with sustainability in mind, handle the billfish with care when releasing them to increase the odds that they will recover well from the fight. The Marlin caught in December were blues, the largest estimated to be 300 pounds and a few striped Marlin. One striped marlin was caught on the fly rod by Russ Elrod and it was his first billfish caught on the fly! Best day for billfish was scored by Andy on December 23rd, single angler released 5 Sailfish out of 7 bites and 2 Blue Marlin out of 3 bites, boating 3 nice sized Mahi-Mahi. Marco de Luca chartered for 4 days, fishing offshore and some inshore. He experienced some excellent fishing, returning to fish with Captain Junior and Diego for a third season. We are so grateful for our crew, Captain Junior Bustos and first mate Diego Lopez. They are on it, every single day they fish. A whole lotta pride goes into their program. They strive to fulfill bucket list fishing requests, create memories and see everyone smiling.
